“she was fierce, she was strong, she wasn’t simple. she was crazy and sometimes she barely slept. she always had something to say. she had flaws and that was okay. and when she was down, she got right back up. she was a beast in her own way, but one idea described her best. she was unstoppable and she took anything she wanted with a smile. ”
My name is Kat Ruiz Moore. I currently live in Washington, D.C. (although I find my mind wandering to other unknown places from time to time). I work full-time as a preschool teacher but I have always made time for photography in my life. Whether it's taking pictures of tiny hands holding leaves or sunsets over the water, I live my life seeing the beauty in all that surrounds me and making sure I capture what I can.
Fast Facts.
I am in love with the outdoors. If I get a chance to be outside, for whatever reason, I will always take that over being inside.
I was a tomboy growing up. I loved roughing it with the boys, climbing trees, and getting dirty (especially on days my mother put me in beautiful party dresses).
If I could pick one word to describe me it would be: adventurous. Whether it's learning how to windsurf, eating Ethiopian food for the first time, or trying out a suspension yoga class, I am constantly seeking out new adventures in my life (and figuring out fun ways to document them).
I am 100% fascinated by children. I am fascinated by their honesty, their ingenuity, their wisdom and their spirit. I think we should all take some time out of our busy days to listen to the words of little ones. Who knows? They might have just the answers we're looking for.
I aim to document reality in my photographs. Silly faces, sloppy kisses, tiny toes, wrinkly hands, uncontrollable laughter, rain-soaked clothes, twirls in the grass, muddy knees. I strive to capture the uninhibited side of people. The true essence of my subjects. Tiny details that most would overlook.
Hope you got a small taste of just who I am and what I believe in. For me, photography is more than just capturing an image, it's capturing a moment. A photograph can take you back to an unmistakable place. It can channel emotions. It can completely change the way you feel at any given time. If I have done this, even just once, then I have fulfilled my purpose as a photographer.
See you in the great outdoors!
